Born in 1975 in Amman, Jordan, Tala Abu Nuwar is a self-taught Jordanian-Palestinian artist whose work is deeply inspired by her spiritual journey and fascination with Sufism, mysticism, and the poetry of Rumi. Guided by intuition, her art weaves together Arabic calligraphy, mixed media, and symbolism to explore themes of oneness, resilience, and inner awakening.
A profound personal loss at the age of 15—the passing of her mother from cancer—shaped Tala’s spiritual path, teaching her acceptance, gratitude, and the understanding that she is never alone. This experience continues to inform her work, which seeks to awaken the heart and inspire others to “close the eye of the self and awaken the eye of the soul.”
In 2020, during the global pandemic, Tala and her family moved to the United States, where she began working extensively on paper and fabric alongside contemporary mixed media. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in the USA, UK, Jordan, Italy, Ireland, Bahrain, and Spain, and is held in private collections worldwide.
Tala currently lives in Lexington, Massachusetts with her husband and four children.
